I certainly watch (er... consume?) my fair share of food television.
So when the opportunity arose to host a live cooking demo for my long-time friends at Ben & Jerry's how could I say no?
"Dessert'd: A Non-Expected Culinary Experience" showcased the fun and deliciousness of creating a full non-dairy and plant-based menu for Instagram and a live RSVP audience. Ben & Jerry's, a perennial leader in the premium ice cream category, launched its first non-dairy flavors in 2016.
After previous events in home-base Burlington, VT, Atlanta, and Denver, I had the honor of hosting the hometown San Diego celebration with nearby Coronado resident, and Food Network host, Melissa D'Arabian.
In addition to her appearances on The Next Food Network Star, Ten Dollar Dinners, and Guy's Grocery Games, Melissa is a New York Times bestselling author. She is an expert in fun, easy, and affordable home cooking.
Together, with the flavor gurus at Ben & Jerry's, Melissa co-conceived this "Dessert Nachos" dish for us to put together live.
You read that right.
On stage in front of a packed house at San Diego's 32 North Brewing Company, this 100% vegan recipe came to life with the assistance of Ben & Jerry's Master Concocter of Concoctions (yes, that's her title) Natalia Butler.

Ben & Jerry's Non-Dairy Caramel Almond Brittle, with waffle cone "chips," blueberries, and a spicy strawberry "salsa."
Indeed. On a warm September evening, this cool, one-of-a-kind, non-dairy dish certainly hit the spot.
And of course, what goes better with nachos than beer...
...and a few great friends.
